Grace and Power
12" x 48", acrylic, 1992

This painting was done on the heels of "Indian Summer". I guess Fiona was such an exciting subject I had to include her in successive paintings, twice in this one. Her orange/reddish appearance compliments the giraffe's colors. I have always been in awe of such powerful animals like elephants, giraffes, bears, etc. Giraffes move with a strange combination of grace and power. Their power is generated through their midsection and the head and legs, which we do not see, move with grace and delicacy.
