Death Denied Study
16" x 20", acrylic, 1999

I was well on my way to finishing this painting before an unexpected event prompted me to put it aside and start a slightly larger and more elaborate painting. What was this unexpected event? I was attending a jazz concert with my father when I noticed a man get up from his seat in the dimly lit theatre and walk past my father. The image of this man's silhouette walking past my father stirred my imagination. I imagined the grim reaper walking past my father. I immediately put this painting aside and started working on a new painting with the grim reaper. (See Death Denied in Room 5.) I like this unfinished painting. It's a little creepy. I certainly will not finish it.
