Crossroads
20" x 48", acrylic, 1993

I like the feeling of space in this painting. Sophie had a restless soul when she posed for me which was perfect for this painting. She makes me think of a female James Dean. The painting presents us with a clear contrast. The church represents traditional bedrock values whereas she represents the marauding restless soul turning her back on the former. I like the way the jacket collar is pointing away from the church towards the unknown. She is at a crossroads in her life.
