Portrait of Dave
28" x 20", acrylic, 1993

The person in this painting is the enigmatic Dave. In charge of security where I once worked, one day he came to work wearing these rectangular sunglasses. I knew right then and there that my painting had been conceived. The sunglasses play an important part in this portrait. If you look closely, you can barely see his eyes through the tinted glasses. This was done deliberately in order to convey a slight lifting of the veil of mystery surrounding this enigmatic man. His jacket was an adventure to do. For me, a jacket like this with all its peaks and valleys is like painting a landscape. This painting has so much energy for a portraiture.
